Deb deVries has over 30 years of experience in the education industry. She began her career in the classroom as a special education teacher after earning her masters degree at the University of Utah. She taught in Utah, Washington, and Minnesota, specializing in early education/special education before joining the private sector. She has held marketing and sales leadership positions supporting educational technology in K–12 schools nationwide with Control Data Corporation, MECC, NetSchools, PLATO, Pearson, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. In addition she has been a successful independent consultant providing services to companies and organizations including Connors Communications, Consulting Services for Education (CS4ED), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), Time To Know, Lightspeed Technologies, Red Rock Reports, Association for Educational Publishers (AEP), Pearson Foundation, American Association for School Administrators(AASA), Impact Education and most recently Nervanix. Deb was one of the 3 founders of the Making It Happen award in 1995 and knows first hand the power of recognition to empower and encourage individuals. Deb has served on the Board of Directors for several key industry and education associations, including the National Teachers Hall of Fame (NTHF), the Florida Education Technology Conference (FETC), ISTE, the Education Division Board of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) and is currently serving on the board of a charter school that plans to open in MN in the fall of 2015. She has traveled extensively including participating in People to People, AASA trips and Habitat for Humanity in Jordan. She retired from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2014 and since then has focused on independent consulting and developing a non–profit with her long time colleague and good friend, Kathy Hurley. Deb is the very proud mother of two daughters who continue to inspire her and have been extremely supportive of her efforts with starting this non–profit, focused on adolescent girls.
